Kimi to futari de aruita ano koro no michi wa nakute
Soredemo zutto aruita, itsuka kimi to aeru no ka na
The road I walked with you back then was gone
And yet, still I walked; will I meet you someday?
Nadaraka na oka no ue, yuruyaka ni yuki ga furu
Todokanai to wakatte mo
Kimi no heya ni hitotsu (1), daisuki datta hana wo ima...
On the gently sloping hill, snow falls softly
Even though I know it won't reach you
In your room, one of your favorite flowers is now...
Kyonen saigo no yuki no hi, kataku kawashita yakusoku
Omoidaseba tokedashi tenohira kara koborete
The firm promise we made on the last day of snow last year melts away,
Spilling from the palm of my hand as I remember
Nadaraka na oka no ue, yuruyaka ni yuki ga furu
Todokanai to wakatte mo
Kimi no heya ni hitotsu, daisuki datta hana wo ima...
On the gently sloping hill, snow falls softly
Even though I know it won't reach you
In your room, one of your favorite flowers is now...
As I remember you staring at the snow, all alone by the window
You float beyond the glass, giving me a last kiss
Nee waratte yo, mou nakanaide
Koko kara zutto anata wo mite iru wa
Hey, please smile; don't cry any more (2)
From here, I am always watching you
Nadaraka na oka no ue, yuruyaka ni yuki ga furu
Todokanai to wakatte mo
Kimi no heya ni hitotsu, daisuki datta hana wo ima...
On the gently sloping hill, snow falls softly
Even though I know it won't reach you
In your room, one of your favorite flowers is now...
Akari wa shizuka ni shiroku someyuku machi no naka
Kimi ga mita saigo no kisetsu iro
Kimi ga mita saigo no kisetsu iro
The emptiness of the city is quietly dyed white
The last seasonal color you saw (3)
You shed tears; reality is cruel, isn't it?
The last seasonal color you saw
Shiki to kimi no iro, yagate kieru darou
With the seasons, the colors of you will probably vanish before long
The snow melts, and on the streetcorners flowers bloom
The "hues" you saw softly melt away
Kotoshi saigo no yuki no hi
The last day of snow this year
Machikado ni ichirin no hana
Sora wo miagereba saigo no yuki ga tenohira ni koborete
On the streetcorner, one flower
When I look up at the sky, the last snow will spill into the palm of my hand
Translator's Notes:
(1) Kyo sings 'hitotsu' here, but the kanji actually reads 'ichirin,' a specific counter for a singular flower.
(2) In this verse, the lyrics switch speakers. Kyo is singing from the perspective of the deceased loved one, presumably watching their lover from heaven.
(3) It was difficult to translate this phrase into an English equivalent which was both accurate and poetic. This line is literally talking about the colors of the seasons, and that the last season, the last colors of nature that the deceased loved one saw, were that of winter. It evokes a beautiful, bittersweet, profoundly Japanese image relating death to the seasons.
(4) This verse is not actually sung; it only appears in the lyrics booklet, where it is written in a different color.
